Austin Lafferty Biog
In mainstream legal practice, Austin Lafferty has seen a lot in over a quarter of a century of practice. Starting in criminal casework, he has conducted many sheriff and district court trials, and instructed QC’s in the High Court, in everything from minor breach of the peace to murder. In civil work Austin has acted in divorces, child care cases, commercial disputes, compensation cases arising out of car accidents, workplace incidents, and negligence. He has also substantial experience in wills and estates, powers of attorney and commercial conveyancing.
Nowadays Austin’s team of experienced colleague solicitors deals with the civil, family and criminal court casework, and he majors on property conveyancing and estate agency.
Austin is also a member of the Council of the Law Society of Scotland, representing members of the legal profession in various committees, and is Chair of the Law Society Strategy Group.
Austin Lafferty is perhaps no ordinary Scottish lawyer. As well as running a rapidly-expanding multi-branch legal firm that headlines in property, wills and estates, family law and compensations claims, he is an experienced writer and broadcaster.
Over more than 20 years, Austin has worked extensively in television, radio and newspapers, answering questions from the general public on matters of law - free! STV, Grampian TV, the BBC - both Radio Scotland and Radio Five Live - and local radio stations have all used Austin’s talents in presenting programmes on both law and non-law subjects, and he has also maintained various newspaper advice and answer columns. He has also written a book, called It’s The Law! which is a representative selection of the many questions and answers he has been involved in within the mass media over the years.
Austin in his spare time runs road races, has a black belt in karate, and is a professional portrait artist.
