We are a general practice law firm which offers legal advice to the people and businesses of Glasgow, East Kilbride, Hamilton and across Scotland. We deal with a bewildering array of legal cases, transactions, problems, issues and disputes and it is unlikely that you will have a legal problem which we have not dealt with before.

A broad range of legal solutions

In our range of work (which does not and could not cover the whole of Scots law) we deal with clients’ property, their marriages and relationships, family and child problems, court cases, death problems (wills and estates), business matters, compensation claims and civil difficulties.

And lots more.

Expert Legal Advice Across Central Scotland

Every client is different, every case and transaction is new and unique, but what is consistent is our intention and effort to treat every instruction the same. Our solicitors are based in Glasgow, East Kilbride and Hamilton, helping clients across Central Scotland and beyond.

We have a well-established manual of office procedures for staff to ensure efficiency, protection of clients’ interests, and full accountability.

We have invested in a state-of-the-art Case management system, all our client ledgers are computerised and we use IT to support our professional knowledge and skills. All staff are trained and equipped to deal with our workload, and their guiding principles are getting the job done for the client, and meeting our service level requirements every day. Among our branches, we have a team of solicitors and support staff. All have their own skill-set – which overlap so in most areas of practice, there is back-up during holiday or absences from work.

It does not matter how a prospective client makes an enquiry – by phone call to a branch, popping in, or contacting us through our website/by email. A quick assessment of the enquiry will be made and passed to the right office and person, for a full response as soon as possible.

We offer a first free consultation to all potential clients, and that meeting will allow us to decide if we can help, but if not, we can usually pass the client on to a trusted colleague in another firm who specialises in work we do not do.

Part of our client care philosophy is that we stick to what we know best, and do not take a risk with our own reputation or our clients’ business. Throughout a case or a transaction, we operate an open door policy. We report regularly to clients as to progress, and welcome requests for updates and information at all stages. We deal with a large amount of clients’ money, and account fully and quickly to clients for all dealings we have had on their behalf.

All work is costed and quoted in advance, and we begin any instruction by issuing our Terms of Engagement (which we are also obliged to do this under Law Society of Scotland regulations), a copy of which can be seen on this website. Austin Lafferty Solicitors is not the biggest law firm in Scotland. We see ourselves as set up and positioned to give a personal, trusted service to clients whom we deal with face to face, but using the same equipment, processes and standards as the largest of firms.

Client testimonials

"I wanted to make you aware of the first class and professional service I received during the purchase of my new house, and sale of my flats. Elaine MacDonald, and her assistant, Tracey Matheson were fantastic to work with. I was kept up to date at all times..."
Stephanie, East Kilbride
